The GO Project is thrilled to welcome Chantal N. Stevens, former National Director of Programs at A Better Chance, as its new Executive Director starting this September.
Stevens has worked in education for more than 15 years and began her career at City University of New York (CUNY). Working first at Baruch College, she then went on to serve as a Special Project Coordinator on a joint initiative between the University and New York City’s Office for Human Resources Administration. In her last CUNY position, she served as the Assistant Director for Recruitment and Admissions Counseling at The City College of New York. In her most recent role at A Better Chance, Stevens was responsible for the management and growth of the signature admissions and placement program nationwide. Stevens is a sought after speaker on topics about student success and diversity, strategic planning, and development of student transition programs. She has been interviewed by outlets such as HuffPost Live, LA Times, ABC Radio, and New York City local news channels.
"As someone whose entire career has been focused on creating access and opportunity for eager learners, I am inspired and honored to join the GO team. The work of the organization is needed now more than ever as the loss of human potential is all too real. GO's holistic approach to the academic, social, and emotional well-being of the students served is at the forefront of efforts to improve the prospects of those often left behind. I am truly energized and excited by the organization's mission and the very important work ahead!" Stevens said.
“As GO enters an exciting growth phase, I am confident that Chantal will successfully build upon GO’s 50-year legacy of changing the trajectories of children’s lives,” said Erica Ahdoot, who has served as GO’s Executive Director since 2010. “She joins an amazing team of board and staff members who partner with students, families, volunteers, and neighborhood schools and institutions to bring one of the highest quality educational programs to our city.”
The GO Project was founded in 1968 and became a 501(c)(3) in 2010. Since that time, the year-round holistic educational intervention program for academically struggling, under-resourced public school students and their families has experienced significant growth, doubling its budget in five years and securing a professional team of 12 full-time staff; more than 250 part-time educators, specialists, teaching assistants and interns; and over 600 volunteers. Over the course of its history, GO has established a track record of high-quality educational programming and deep family and community engagement. As part of her responsibilities, Stevens will lead the organization in executing expansion opportunities – the organization will continue to increase its footprint in Lower Manhattan and is poised to launch a new site in another NYC neighborhood in 2017.
“After a comprehensive nationwide search led by fellow Board member, Dominique Schulte, we’re thrilled to welcome Chantal to the GO Project,” Dan Berger, Co-Chair of the GO Project Board of Directors stated. “Chantal’s deep experience in education and serving under-resourced children and families is a perfect fit for GO. Chantal will lead GO to new frontiers in achieving educational equity for public school students in New York City.”
GO is honored to be the first recipient of the LearnBop Buy One Give One Program! LearnBop is a web-based math tool that benefits students and families seeking a personalized, adaptive, and self-paced support. They believe that every student deserves the opportunity to excel in math – no matter their circumstances. For every LearnBop subscription purchased, one will be donated to a GO middle school student, which will enable families and teachers to work together to ensure students continue to make significant progress in math.
Teachers and students will begin using LearnBop during GO Summer and will set goals that encourage them to use the tool at home and during GO School. Click here for more information.
For the third year in a row, GO Project is partnering with High Water Women to host a school supplies drive for GO elementary school students.
It costs $25 to provide supplies for one GO student.
This summer, GO will be serving 500 elementary school students and reaching more families than ever before. We need your help to raise $8,000 in order to ensure every GO elementary student starts the new program year on July 5 with the tools they need to be successful in school.
Please consider making a donation today. Your gift will have a direct and meaningful impact on our students. On behalf of the students and families we serve, thank you.
For the second year in a row, the GO Project has been named an Official Charity Partner of the 2016 United Airlines NYC Half. The annual 13.1 mile race will take place on Sunday, March 20, 2016. This year, we are incredibly proud and excited to engage a dedicated team of four runners as members of the GO Project team in 2016!
Please support Jeremy, Rajwantie, Mariel, and Matt as they run on behalf of the students and families of GO Project. Your donation will help students realize their potential and build a stronger community for us all. We will use the hashtag #UnitedNYCHalf on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram so you can follow along.

The GO Project is proud to announce its partnership with The Church of St. Luke in the Fields in Greenwich Village to serve 50 struggling students.
"This partnership is very important to GO as we join with St. Luke's to bridge the educational gap for public school children through access to year-round educational and family support services." Erica Ahdoot, Executive Director of the GO Project said. "The addition of St. Luke's will allow us to open up new classes in kindergarten through 2nd grade, giving children on our waiting list an opportunity to positively change their educational trajectories."
The GO Project is channeling additional resources to its youngest and most vulnerable learners in an effort to deepen the impact of its program on students' lives. Classes are led by a team of Head Teachers that have extensive backgrounds in early childhood education. Children build key foundational skills in both math and literacy and participate in enrichment-focused activities, with the goal of getting once-struggling students performing at grade level and on the path to high school graduation. Classes are held on Saturdays from October until April and continue through the summer. GO delivers a focused individualized program and maintains a 1:4 adult to student ratio across all classrooms.
"We are thrilled to have GO here at St. Luke's. After over a year of planning, it is wonderful to finally have the kids here on campus. We are looking forward to continuing to grow in our relationship with GO in the weeks and months ahead," said The Reverend Emily Phillips Lloyd.
While this is not the first time GO has collaborated with St. Luke's, this announcement cements a formal partnership between the two organizations. St. Luke's has been committed to educational equity through their facilitation of a GO St. Luke's program for struggling public school students throughout the City, led by Lyn Spyropoulos, head of St. Luke's Upper School, and a cadre of committed volunteers.
The Church of St. Luke in the Fields, an Episcopal church, is a lively, inclusive parish located in the heart of New York City's Greenwich Village. St. Luke's historic outreach programs to the LGBT community include programs that provide a Saturday evening communal dinner for individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and a Saturday evening drop-in program for homeless/marginally housed LGBTQA youth. All programs are nonsectarian and welcome people of all faiths, no faith, and all backgrounds.
St. Luke's joins the GO Project roster of host sites including Grace Church, Grace Church School, LREI, Friends Seminary, and Avenues: The World School.
