July 12, 2018 -- Today is National Summer Learning Day! Check out our cute video capturing a summer day at the GO Project. #keepkidslearning
The GO Project’s Executive Director Gayle Villani spoke to Nina del Rio on July 1 about GO Summer and how our students beat summer learning loss. To listen to the recording, please create a free iHeartRadio account first. Shout out to 106.7 Lite-FM, WLTW-NY for giving us the opportunity to inform their listeners about GO Project and our summer program.
Most students lose two months of math skills and two to three months in reading every summer. This is typically known as "summer slide." At GO Project, our students stay academically engaged throughout the summer, and gain new skills and confidence. From 9am to 5pm, five days a week, children study core subjects in the morning. After lunch, students delve into enrichment activities such as art, music, dance, physical education, and other classes that nurture the creativity and interests of each child. GO Summer this year begins on Monday, July 2nd and runs until Friday, August 3rd. We look forward to welcoming our students, families, teachers, staff, and volunteers. See you soon!

GO Project began serving public school students in Lower Manhattan 50 years ago. On Saturday, October 14, GO Project opened its doors and welcomed public school students and their families in Brooklyn for the first time, in partnership with The Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope! Over 75 guests, including families and students, GO Board of Directors, donors, supporters, and Berkeley Carroll staff members attended the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in celebration of the GO Brooklyn Launch. The morning started with brief remarks from Robert Vitalo, Head of School at Berkeley Carroll; Gayle Villani, Interim Executive Director; Rahesha Amon-Harrison, District 16 Superintendent; and Saul Maldonado, a former GO Student and current Volunteer. Then we invited a few students to help us cut the ribbon. The morning ended with a morning assembly with our families and students.
There are many people that we wish to thank throughout the journey leading up to this day. Thank you to our Board of Directors for their support and leadership! Thank you to Robert Vitalo, Head of School at Berkeley Carroll and his staff for their tremendous support. We are grateful to our Public School Partners, Principals, and Superintendents of Districts 13, 16, and 17. And last but certainly not least, a big thank you to our Brooklyn families! We look forward to getting to know them and are proud to welcome them to the GO community!
The GO Brooklyn Launch was covered by NY1 Noticias (The footage is in Spanish). Click here to watch the broadcast.
